Description

Emersed plants readily produce flowers and seeds but it can be grown submersed as well. Once submerged, leaves may die off before underwater leaves develop. In aquariums it is best grown in the background as a specimen plant. Echinodorus cordifolius will outgrow a smaller aquarium, however, removing the floating leaves will help keep it smaller and submersed. This plant ideally needs a large, deep aquarium to grow properly.

CO2 infusion helps with stronger growth. A heavy feeder and a rich substrate is needed for optimum growth. If grown emersed it is prone to attacks by aphids. It is not too fussy as to water conditions, and prefers tropical aquarium temperatures. It can be grown outdoors in warmer countries, however, it won’t tolerate frost. Echinodorus cordifolius will flourish with a lot of light.
